5G Broadcasting: Direct to Mobile

5G Broadcasting is an exciting new protocol.

In the US, LPTV Broadcasters (UHF 15kw ERP) can use a current OFDM transmitter, tower, and antenna to transmit over-the-air delivery of content directly into a smartphone. There is no need for cell service, wifi, or bluetooth. It is independently received by the smartphone.

The best and highest use of 5G Broadcasting is for emergency alerts and first responders. Emergency alerts can be delivered to the public in under ½ second. If cell service goes down, 5G Broadcast can continue to connect to the public and first responders. From a streaming channel delivering emergency instructions to first responder communications with cutting edge technology, 5G Broadcasting is the future of LPTV with its ability to broadcast directly into a smartphone.

5G Broadcasting is under development. While there are ways for the public to receive 5G Broadcasting using an SDR, it is not considered commercially available. Commercially available devices that are optimized for 5G Broadcast will roll out in 2025.

LPTVBA members Malachi Media, Egot Media, Venture Technologies, and XGen Network are working with experimental licenses with very specific proof of concept goals.

5G Broadcasting has a very bright future with a business plan for LPTV in the US and also for the rest of the world. 5G Broadcast has one worldwide standard per the 3gpp stanards. 5G Broadcast is all about low power, low tower, multiple deployments to be most effective.
